RESORT DESCRIPTION FOR Val Thorens (Les 3 Vallées)

The ski resort Les 3 Vallées – Val Thorens ski /Les Menuires/Méribel/Courchevel is located in the Tarentaise (France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Savoie Mont Blanc, Savoie, Albertville). For skiing and snowboarding, there are 600 km of slopes and 50 km of ski routes available. 143 lifts transport the guests. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 1,100 and 3,230 m.

The ski resort, Les 3 Vallées – the three valleys – connects the valleys of Courchevel, Méribel and the Vallée des Belleville with Saint Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens to form one of the largest connected ski resorts in the world. The different valleys also offer a variety of landscapes from High Alpine terrain with cliffs and Alm meadows to slopes through the forests – and the space between the slopes is accessible for freeriders. There are also connections to the ski resort with gondolas from Orelle and Brides-les-Bains, which are not located in the valleys.

Best tips for Val Thorens (Les 3 Vallées)

Val Thorens remains a top place for the enthusiast looking for the best snow available and fast lifts to whizz you around. For a late trip, in particular, it’s the best base in the wonderful Three Valleys. Val Thorens is a classic purpose-built resort, high above the treeline at the head of the valley it shares with Les Menuires and St-Martin. Buses to/from Les Menuires are supposed to carry just pedestrians and cross-country skiers, not downhillers – crazy!

  • Extensive slopes for all abilities, plus access to the Three Valleys
  • One of the most snow-sure resorts
  • Fastest lift system in France
  • Compact, with ski-in/out lodgings
  • Not a tree in sight
  • Away from the front de neige, not an attractive place to walk around
  • Not ideal for non-skiers
  • Some very crowded pistes and dangerous intersections
